Coastal Voices invites new singers to join the choir

Coastal Voices, a choral ensemble based out of Newport and performing along the central Oregon coast, announces that they will be accepting new singers in August. Being a gentle, welcoming sort of choir, we prefer not to use the term “audition” so we call our meetings with potential singers “vocal introductions” instead. Introductions will take place Tuesday, August 22, from 5 to 9 pm and on Saturday, August 26 from 9 am to noon. Here’s how the process works:

  • Schedule a half hour session using our ScheduleGenie page

  • Show up at the scheduled time, say hi to a volunteer, fill out a single page of paperwork

  • Meet with our director, Rhodd, and have a little conversation about who you are and why you want to sing with us

  • Sing a few basic exercises (scale, rhythm, note matching, range) and a familiar song

We don’t require you to read music (although we’d like you to and we hope you’ll learn if you join us). We don’t require you to have lots of experience in choral music. We do look for people who are excited about singing and about singing in a group. We’re interested in people who want to put some effort into contributing to the ensemble both as a singer and as a person willing to help out with needed tasks.

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings at the Performing Arts Center in Newport. There is a fee to sing with the group. We’ll be singing concerts in early December and May. We’re also planning an anniversary gala for next July.

If you’re interested in singing with us but can’t make the scheduled dates, please contact us at CVinfo@coastal-voices.org.
